LA FORTUNA HORSEBACK RIDING & WATERFALL
Embark on a picturesque horseback riding adventure through the winding rainforest trails near Arenal Volcano, leading you to the renowned La Fortuna Waterfall. Whether you're a novice or an experienced equestrian, this tour promises a memorable journey through Costa Rica's stunning landscapes, with opportunities to meet the indigenous Maleku people along the way.
Your adventure begins with a friendly local pickup from your La Fortuna area hotel, followed by a scenic ride along picturesque backcountry roads. As you approach the foot of Arenal Volcano, you'll arrive at the horse ranch basecamp, where your friendly guides will pair you with the perfect horse based on your experience level.
After receiving safety instructions and donning riding helmets, you'll set off on relaxed trails through the rainforest, accompanied by the sounds of nature. Keep your eyes peeled for birds like toucans and oropendolas, as well as playful spider monkeys swinging through the treetops. Your naturalist guide will provide fascinating insights into the local flora and fauna as you ride.
Arriving at a pastoral ranch near the waterfall, you'll dismount your horse and embark on a short hike through the rainforest towards La Fortuna Waterfall. As you walk, take in the lush tropical flora and dense vegetation, and cross a hanging suspension bridge for a unique perspective of the surroundings.
Upon reaching La Fortuna Waterfall, marvel at the stunning cascade of water almost 250-feet high. Descend hundreds of steps to reach the waterfall pool below, where you can cool off and snap some spectacular photos. For those who prefer not to take the stairs, an observation platform nearby offers equally breathtaking views.
After enjoying the waterfall, reunite with your horse and begin the journey back, stopping at a small thatched hut to meet members of the Maleku community and learn about their ancient culture.
Horseback riding through Costa Rica's nature trails offers a perfect blend of adventure, nature, and cultural immersion—an experience sure to create lasting memories.
