Embark on a captivating boat tour through the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge along the Rio Frio, starting from La Fortuna and traversing the stunning Costa Rican countryside.

The refuge, sprawling over 10,000 hectares near the Nicaraguan border, is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, particularly birdwatchers. During the approximately 1.5-hour journey from La Fortuna to Caño Negro, keep your eyes peeled for the magnificent Jabiru Stork, the tallest flying bird in Central and South America, along with other fascinating avian species like wood storks and cormorants.

Upon reaching Caño Negro, you'll board a comfortable boat at the Los Chiles dock, featuring a shaded top for your comfort. Don't forget to bring essentials like a hat, sunscreen, camera, and binoculars to enhance your experience. The 2-hour boat ride along the edge of the wildlife refuge offers ample opportunities for birdwatching and capturing stunning photos, with a chance for a photo stop at the Nicaraguan border.

During the tour, take a break to stretch your legs and enjoy a riverside picnic amidst the picturesque surroundings. Afterward, we'll resume our boat journey, returning to the Los Chiles dock before heading back to La Fortuna.
